Ebenezer Gibson (1862 – 1917) Ebenezer Gibson was the husband of Elizabeth Gollar, who was the daughter of John and Anne (Yates) Gollar. He was born on 14th January 1862 in Dunedin and was married to Elizabeth when they were both 46 years old, on 3rd June 1908, at the home of Mrs Anne Gollar at 84 Albany Street, Dunedin. At the time of the wedding he was residing in Oamaru. Ebenezer was a labourer. His mother’s maiden name was Margaret Forsyth (born 1836, died 29th November 1913) and his father was a Dunedin butcher, Peter Gibson (born 1836, died 22nd July 1882). Both parents are buried in Block 4, Plot 1 of Dunedin’s Northern Cemetery. The witnesses to the marriage were James Gibson, butcher, of 268 George Street, Dunedin, and Elizabeth Ellen Gollar Smith (“Girlie”) of Dunedin, which is incorrect, as she was Elizabeth Ellen Marr Smith. Ebenezer must have been well-regarded by the Gollar family, as he is buried in the Gollar family plot at the Dunedin Northern Cemetery. The photograph of him is of a very young Ebenezer, but that is the same photo that Elizabeth carried in her locket all of her life. Others buried here: Ebenezer’s father- and mother-in-law John and Anne Gollar. See also: |
