| Born March 12th 1833 in Little Lever in Lancashire, England to parents Joseph and Mary, young Joseph was to travel to Australia in 1853 with his father, uncle, sister and two brothers to start a new life.
Sadly, Joseph was to lose his father and uncle on this journey and the young Heywood children arrived in Melbourne needing to make their own way in the world. They left behind their mother, sisters and brothers who stayed in Little Lever. Marrying Isabella Chisholm in 1856, Joseph raised three daughters and one son. In travelling to Dunedin, Joseph married Henrietta Cranefield in 1893 and five years later at the age of 65, he was to pass. |
