Jessie Margaret Haggitt (née Tolmie) (c.1859-1931)

Jessie Margaret was the eldest daughter of three children of William Alexander and Sibella Tolmie (née MacKinnon). She was born on 1st March 1859 in Australia.

Jessie Tolmie married Bryan Cecil Haggitt at First Church, Dunedin as his second wife on 8th February 1883. As I understand it, from talking to Bryan Haggitt, a descendant of Jessie’s husband who lives in Remuera, Bryan Haggitt Senior was a lot older than Jessie and already had a substantial family. They had another nine children over 13 years; Cecil William; Sibella Marion, Jessie Margaret, William Todd, Lilias Edith, Hugh Eric, Norman, Kenneth Alex Leslie and Edith Amy. Bryan and Jessie lived at Andersons Bay, Dunedin and it would appear that they had a very comfortable lifestyle.

Jessie Haggitt died on 7th March 1931 in Dunedin, New Zealand, aged 72. She is buried in the Northern Cemetery with her husband and his family.
