George Bernard Monson was the youngest son of John Robert and M.A. Monson of Port Chalmers. He married Harriet Brenchley. He worked for the New Zealand Railway Department, at Burnside Station, and they lived in the station house there. George’s wife died on 16th August 1907, having given birth to Harriet (their fourth child) on 3rd August 1907. Sadly George died in Dunedin Hospital, after a short illness, on 1st September 1907, and baby Harriet died just five days later on 6th September 1907, leaving three young orphans remaining of the family.
