William McKinlay (1834 – 1914)

William McKinlay was born on 20 February, 1834, in Kilmarnock, Scotland

He married Mary Ann Cumming in Kilmarnock on 19 March, 1852.

His second marriage was to Kate Maude Zander, formerly Rudkin nee Robinson. The marriage took place in Oamaru in 1894. She is buried at Dunedin’s Southern Cemetery and is an ancestor of Bridget Armstrong, the actress.

William’s parents were Walter McKinlay of Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland and Margaret (Peggy) MacFarlane of Perthshire.

William was first a Block Printer, then a Calico Printer and lastly a Bootmaker.

The family left Greenock on the ship “Auckland” on 31 July 1875 and arrived at Port Chalmers on 27 October 1875.

William died on 31 May 1914 (d. cert. Senile changes, Morbus Cordis, Cardiac failure, gradual and insidious.)
