Mary Jane Helleur (nee Connelly) was widowed with two children, Annie and Augusta, when she married Nathan Walter Moyse on 26 October 1873 in the parish of St Saviour, Jersey. Nathan and Mary had no children together. On 15 December 1873 they set sail from Plymouth on board the Scimitar for Port Chalmers. . It was an ill-fated journey (well documented) with many dying and the ship quarantined on arrival at Port Chalmers. Both Annie and Augusta used the name Moyse and attended Opoho School. The family lived in Forth Street and Nathan owned The City Steam Laundry on the corner of Cumberland and Union Streets. Mary Jane is buried in the same plot as Nathan, who died in 1886, aged 42 years but she did not die until 1925 aged 88 years. |
