Biography

William Evans was born on the 28th of June 1836 at Cefn Coed y Cymmer in Wales. He emigrated to Australia with his parents on the Helen in 1852. He married Margaret Hall (burial register 14223) in Balmoral, Victoria, Australia, on 19 January 1863. They moved to New Zealand, the same year, to the Otago goldfields. From about 1864 until 1878 they lived at Blue Spur, although also acquired and spent time at a farm in Southland. From 1878 until 1890 they lived in Lawrence. In 1890 they moved to Dunedin. William and Margaret had 12 children, three of whom are also buried in the same plot in the Northern Cemetery. William died on 19 June 1904 while on a visit to Melbourne, Australia.
