Edith Herring was born on 23rd March 1888, the youngest child and third daughter of Walter and Olive (née Matthews) Herring. Walter and Olive were both born in England and married there. They arrived in New Zealand at Port Chalmers on the Corona in 1874. The family was well known in Upper Junction, where Walter owned land that had previously been allocated to William Larnach. Edith died on 3rd September 1888, at the age of 5 months. |
