William (Billy) Yates (1864 – 1950)

William, eldest son of John and Mary Yates was born in Tasmania on the 5th January 1864. Little is known of William, but he was definitely a member of the Alhambra Rugby Club in Dunedin!!
He married in Dunedin at the age of 27 in 1891, Ann (Annie) Kennedy.

William was an Ironmoulder by trade according to the Wills of his wife and father. Their residence was at 3 Hyde Street, which is in the same area of North Dunedin as the Yates and Gollar Families resided. Annie and William had two children, Albert and Margaret.

William died on 10th August 1950, aged 86 years, and was buried on the 12th August 1950 in the Yates plot, Block 111, Plot 2.

The Death Notice in the Otago Daily Times, 14th of August 1950 states:

Yates: William. On August 10, 1950, at Dunedin, husband of the late Anne Yates. Privately interred on August 12.
