Margaret Raffan was christened on 29 May 1844 in Cairney by Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She married John Taylor on 18 May 1866 at the house of John Kirkland, Elm Grove, East Taieri, Otago. They had four children: William Grant Taylor, John Hamilton Reid Taylor, Margaret Elizabeth Kirkland Taylor and Mary Jane Taylor. Margaret died on 12 August 1896 at her home in Heriot Row, Dunedin, from heart disease. Her husband John died in 1888 and is buried in the East Taieri Cemetery, Mosgiel.
