Ann McArthur (1804 – 1887)

Ann McArthur, nee Massie, eldest of five children of James Massie, a private in the Aberdeenshire Militia, and Isobel Silver was born at Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire, Scotland, in 1804. Ann’s father, James, later became a mason. Ann married Duncan MCArthur there in 1830. They had ten children.

Ann and Duncan came to New Zealand, possibly in time for their son’s Peter’s marriage. After 13 years of living in New Zealand, Ann died of Pulmonary congestion at Woodhaugh on 2 July 1887, aged 84 years and was buried on 5 July. (Presbyterian)
