Julia Macfarlane was born at Bantry, Cork, Ireland, about 1848, second daughter to John Lehane and Amelia Emma Trenwith. She arrived from Melbourne, Australia in March 1860, aged about 12, on the Dunedin. Julia married John Macfarlane “at the house of Mrs Hayes, Moray Place” 29 August 1871 [Otago Daily Times, Issue 3003, 21 September 1871, Page 2]. Julia Macfarlane died at 10 Howe Street, Dunedin, on 10th June 1896, aged 48 years. Her cause of death was given as “Haemorrhage on the brain and epileptic fits”. She was buried in the Northern Cemetery, Block 39 Plot 7, undertaker Hugh Gourley. Amelia (Emma) Hayes, née Trenwith, also buried in this plot, was previously married to John Lehane and was the mother of Julia, subsequently marrying Attiwell Hayes. |
